A 41-year-old man from Mpumalanga has been taken into custody for the brutal killing of a woman with whom he shares two children.
According to police, the tragic incident unfolded on Monday in Schoemansdal. The couple reportedly got into a heated argument, which turned deadly when the man allegedly struck the 31-year-old woman with an axe, fatally wounding her.
In a chilling turn, the woman’s body was left lying in the street.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed that law enforcement and emergency services were called to the scene shortly afterward. A swift investigation led to the suspect’s arrest.
The man is expected to appear in court on Wednesday at the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court to face a charge of murder.
Acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the killing as a deeply inhumane act. He urged people facing domestic or relationship troubles to seek support, rather than resorting to violence.
“Gender-based violence continues to be a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of women and children,” Mkhwanazi said.
This case comes just months after another shocking incident in Balfour, where four siblings were arrested for allegedly murdering their 71-year-old father. He was found on a couch with multiple gunshot wounds, and empty cartridges were discovered at the scene.
