A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of eight people on the N2 highway near Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, leaving a community in mourning.

According to emergency responders, the fatal crash involved a small truck carrying passengers and a larger vehicle. The impact was so severe that eight individuals died at the scene.

Sixteen others were injured in the collision. Twelve sustained serious injuries, while four are fighting for their lives in critical condition.

Authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of the accident as investigations continue.
