India launched a large-scale military operation named “Operation Sindoor,” targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The missile strikes mark the deepest cross-border action by India in years, pushing tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors to dangerous new heights. Pakistani authorities reported that at least eight people, including children, were killed in the attack.
In response, Pakistan claimed it shot down five Indian fighter jets and one drone during the confrontation. According to Pakistani security officials, three of the downed aircraft were Rafale jets, considered among the most advanced in India’s air fleet. India has not confirmed the loss of any aircraft.
