MELSPRUIT – Two suspects were arrested during Operation Vala Umgodi in Pilgrim’s Rest and Ermelo respectively, for Contravention of Immigration Act of South Africa on Friday, 18 April 2025. A 30-year-old foreign national was cornered by law enforcement officials assigned for Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga. The female suspect was nabbed by the Proactive and Combat team as a disruptive operation was conducted in Digging at Pilgrim’s Rest after she failed to produce valid documentation to be in the country. Meanwhile, in Ermelo, the combat team members deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi also apprehended a 43-year-old suspect on the same Friday (18 April 2024) during stop-and-searches on the N17 Road next to Wesselton area in Ermelo. The suspects were charged accordingly. The suspect arrested in Pilgrim’s Rest is expected to appear at thr Pilgrims’ Rest Periodical Court soon, meanwhile the one caught in Ermelo is expected to appear at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 22 April 2025.
