Media Statement PRETORIA – Nozipho Mary Jane Mungwe (44) appeared before the Himeville Magistrates Court on 15 April 2025, where she faced charges of fraud and corruption. This comes after she was arrested on Monday, 14 February 2025 at Underberg Village mall, KwaZulu-Natal. It is alleged that between the period of February 2021 until December 2021, Mungwe who was employed at the Department of Home Affairs in Himeville, fraudulently captured 19 illegal death certificates. These certificates, she subsequently used as supporting documentation in the submission of fraudulent death benefit claims to Sanlam insurance for processing. The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team for further investigation. Further probe discovered that all the individuals declared deceased are still alive and the fraudulent death certificates were registered by the accused. The case against Mungwe has been postponed to 15 May 2025 whilst she was granted R10 000 bail. Ends
