Media Statement RIVERSDALE – The persistent efforts by police to remove firearms from the hands of criminals once again yielded positive results after a swift response to information resulted in the confiscation of two firearms and the arrest of two suspects in Riversdale. Both suspects are heading to the Riversdale Magistrates’ court on Monday, 14 April 2025 for their first court appearance. On Thursday, 10 April 2025 at about 12:45 Riversdale police members responded to information on an unlicensed firearm kept at a house at Garcia Bosbou. A search of the premises ensued leading to the discovery of a Browning pistol. Further investigation into this discovery took the vigilant members to another residence in the same vicinity where they found a 9mm Pietro Beretta pistol. The police also confiscated 10 38 rounds of ammunition. The two men aged 19 and 21 were unable to account for their possession thereof and were subsequently arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Meanwhile, on Saturday, 12 April 2025 at about 22:10 the same members conducted patrols in crime hotspot areas when they spotted a man acting suspiciously along Aalwyn Avenue, Riversdale. The members searched the man and found two rounds of ammunition in his possession. They confiscated the rounds and arrested the man on a charge of unlawful possession of ammunition. The 24 year old suspect remains in police custody. He will appear in court once charged. Western Cape police management lauded the efforts of these members which led to the confiscation of the items. These arrests and confiscations are in line with policing objectives of the province. Ends
