Media Statement POLOKWANE – The multi-disciplinary forces of Operation Vala Umgodi have made significant strides in the fight against illegal mining activities. This follows the arrest of 264 suspects for illegal mining activities as well as for contravention of the Immigration Act during the month of March 2025. Amongst the arrested suspects, 31 suspects were arrested for illegal mining offences and 212 for other offences related to illegal mining activities at Mopani, Vhembe, Waterberg, Sekhukhune, Capricorn, and Vhembe districts. The operations were executed through patrols, stops, and searches at the illegal mining sites in the province, focusing on illegal mining activities and related crimes. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the members of Operation Vala Umgodi across the province for stamping the authority of the state and ensuring that the minerals of this province are protected. The Police investigations are still ongoing. Ends
