Media Statement NELSPRUIT – During Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga, two suspects, aged 30 and 43, were nabbed by team members from combat on Thursday, 10 April 2025. The astute members managed to achieve this success as they carried out an intelligence driven operation at the Matsulu area. The suspects were arrested in different houses around the Matsulu area, and they were charged for possession of gold bearing material and for possession of explosives. During the operation, illicit mining equipment, including phendukas, gas cylinders, and explosives, were confiscated. The suspects are expected to appear at the Matsulu Magistrate’s court soon. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has expressed his gratitude to the exceptional work done by dedicated members assigned for Operation Vala Umgodi in the province as their hard work is yielding positive results.
