Media Statement PARKTOWN – The South African Police Service Management in Gauteng has noted the allegations against Major General Fred Kekana regarding a food poisoning incident in Mapetla, Moroka policing precinct on 5 April 2025. It is alleged that the family of the child were taken by the police to SAPS only to be told by the members that they must reopen the spaza shop which was closed by the community following the food poisoning incident. The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has instructed the Inspectorate Component to register a formal complaint against the police in order to investigate this allegation. The police have registered an enquiry which is overseen by the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS).
