Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Endeavours to arrest wanted suspects in the Western Cape yielded success during a targeted take-down operation directed to neutralise criminal gang groupings who are actively involved in criminal activities such as murder, attempted murder, possession of abalone, firearms and drugs in towns situated within the Overberg District. This operation commenced during July 2023 focusing on the identification, monitoring and apprehension of these suspects who are responsible for the most prominent crime generators in the mentioned areas. Between Wednesday, 26 March 2025 until the early hours of Thursday morning, Provincial Organised Crime detectives supplemented by other police units descended on several identified addresses, armed with warrants of arrest which were issued by court after thorough investigation. Detectives have arrested ten wanted suspects in connection with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, committed during December 2021 in Gans Bay, the illegal possession of abalone during September 2021 in Stanford, murder committed during December 2021, intimidation during December 2023 in Bredasdorp and possession of abalone during September 2022 in Grabouw. The adult male suspects will appear in the Hermanus Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges tomorrow, 28 March 2025. All of them have also been charged under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
