Media Statement A total number of 330 suspects were apprehended by the members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo following a high-density Operation Shanela conducted across the five Districts. The operation commenced on Monday 30 March 2025 until Sunday 06 April 2025, and was executed jointly with other law enforcement agencies comprising of the members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Traffic Police, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Correctional Service including Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Youth Desk. The suspects were arrested for offences that included possession of drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of dangerous weapons, robbery, attempted murder, assault GBH, rape, assault common, burglary business, malicious damage to property, illegal migrants, possession of counterfeit goods and possession of illicit cigarettes. The operations were conducted through roadblocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, high visibility patrols, vehicle and premises searches, compliance at second hand goods dealers and licensed liquor premises. The operations yielded positive results and the successes were achieved as follows: ▶️ 04 Illegal possession of firearms. ▶️ 02 Illegal possession of ammunition. ▶️ 10 Possession of a dangerous weapon. ▶️ 02 Dealing in drugs. ▶️ 06 Possession of illicit cigarettes. ▶️ 11 Illegal dealing in liquor. ▶️ 03 Possession of counterfeit goods. ▶️ 02 Possession of drugs. ▶️ 02 Robbery business. ▶️ 77 Illegal immigrants. ▶️ 27 Assault GBH. ▶️ 05 Rape. ▶️ 30 Assault common. ▶️ 04 Malicious damage to property. ▶️ 02 Murder. ▶️ 02 Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. ▶️ 04 Attempted murder. ▶️ 02 Robbery business. ▶️ 05 Burglary business. During the operation, the following items were confiscated comprising of: ▶️ 1140,365 Litres of Alcoholic beverages. ▶️ 07 Ammunition. ▶️ 12 Cellphones. ▶️ 01 Counterfeit goods. ▶️16 Dangerous weapons. ▶️ 1,079 KG of dagga. ▶️ 10,95 grams of Nyaope drugs. ▶️ 02 Firearms. ▶️ 03 Explosives. The suspects have already started to appear before the various respective Magistrate’s Courts. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has assured the members of the public that operation “Shanela” will be strengthened during the upcoming Easter season celebrations and police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the province remains crime free during the period.
