Media Statement POLOKWANE – The ongoing efforts displayed by members of Operation Vala Umgodi in Limpopo led to the arrest of 13 undocumented foreigners, two illegal miners and one suspect for employing undocumented foreigners. The Operations were conducted separately between Friday, 04 April 2025 and Saturday, 05 April 2025. The suspects were arrested during the operations executed through patrols, stop and searches at the identified illegal mining sites. In Mopani, the team arrested two suspects, aged 27 and 34, for illegal mining and contravention of immigration laws. According to the report, the members received information about illegal mining activities in Makhwibidung at Maake Policing area. They followed the leads and the suspects were spotted busy loading sand in a truck. The suspects were arrested upon failing to produce mining permits and passports. During the arrests, the Police seized items such as shovels, spade and a pickaxe. In another incident, Police arrested suspect, aged 38, for employing undocumented foreigners and two suspects, aged between 31 and 35, were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act at Lenyenye in Maake Policing area. Subsequent to operations at Vhembe, Waterberg and Sekhukhune Districts, Police arrested 13 undocumented foreigners and seized a variety of items which included phendukas, hammers, pangas, gas lighter, mobile wash-bay, shovels, iron balls and brick moulds. The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon. Ends
