WESTERN CAPE – The endeavours of the respective SAPS station members to bring stability to crime-ridden areas have proved fruitful as indicated by the results achieved during this weekend’s operations. On Friday, 04 April 2025, Ocean View SAPS members arrested a 50-year-old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members were conducting stop and searches at Masiphumelele when they searched a suspicious looking person and found him in possession of a 7.65 MOD 60 pistol with seven rounds of ammunition. In an unrelated intervention on 05 April 2025 at 23:00 members attached to Operation Restore, deployed in Delft were busy with stop and search operations in Mustang Crescent when they apprehended a 27-year-old male for possession of a prohibited Astra 6.36mm pistol. Meanwhile Philippi SAPS members arrested a 23-year-old male for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition when he was found in possession of a .38 Rossi revolver and two .38 rounds. The members also arrested a 22-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, when he was found with a 9mm Parabellum pistol and 15 x 9mm rounds of ammunition in his possession. All these firearms were handed in and will be sent to ballistics for analysis. The arrested suspects are expected to make their respective appearances in the Simons Town, Bellville and Athlone Magistrates court on Monday, 07 April 2025 on the mentioned charges. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile has once again applauded the positive efforts of the members by removing illegal firearms and ammunition from the streets of the Province.
