POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the outstanding work of the Sekhukhune Tracking and Investigation Team for a successful, intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of two dangerous suspects, resulting in the recovery of four unlicensed firearms and a substantial quantity of live ammunition. The high-impact operation unfolded over a three-day period, from Thursday, 03 April 2025 at 06h00 until Saturday, 05 April 2025 at 13h00, and targeted suspects linked to multiple cases of armed robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping within the Sekhukhune District. On Friday, the team apprehended the first suspect, aged 37 in Leeufontein, within the Motetema policing precinct. The suspect was found in possession of three unlicensed firearms with obliterated serial numbers, along with several rounds of live ammunition, including rifle rounds. He has been positively linked to a January 2025 hijacking and kidnapping incident that occurred in Jane Furse. The operation then extended to Mpumalanga Province, where the second suspect, believed to be the mastermind, was located at his residence in Koedoespoort, under the Vaalbank SAPS precinct. Upon confrontation, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. He was found in possession of a firearm and live ammunition, and a thorough search of his premises led to the recovery of a significant cache of additional ammunition. “These arrests have not only removed dangerous criminals from our streets but have also brought justice closer to victims of violent crimes. I commend the Sekhukhune Tracking and Investigation Team for their courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to public safety,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. The suspects, both aged 37, are expected to appear soon before various Magistrate’s Courts to face charges including, kidnapping, carjacking, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. They will also be linked to additional cases currently under investigation by Motetema SAPS. Ends
