Media Statement OR TAMBO DISTRICT – With dedication and commitment in fighting crime, off-duty Lusikisiki District Task Team members received information from their reliable source about male suspects transporting dagga and suspected to be having unlicensed firearms in Lusikisiki CBD with vehicle description given to them on Tuesday, 01 April 2025 at about 10:30 and members quickly responded. The vehicle fitting the description was spotted and two male suspects aged 25 and 50 were arrested, with the 25-year-old from Mlazi – Durban charged for transportation of dagga whilst the 50-year-old male suspect residing at Nikhwe locality, Hombe A/A – Lusikisiki was charged for possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with ammunition. On firearm circulation, it transpired that firearm belongs to deceased Mr Hendrik of Minaarsplaas, Lynn East – Cape Town whilst in Qumbu, a stock theft raid by Qumbu Stocktheft unit members in Siqikini and Blackhill localities on Tuesday, 01 April 2025 from 06:00 until 18:00 led to the impoundment of unclaimed stock being ten (10) sheep and ten (10) cattle all to an estimated value of R115 000,00. All those with missing/stolen stock must visit Qumbu municipality stock pound to identify their lost stock with all necessary stock documentation. Also recovered during the raid were 82 sheep which were part of the sheep stolen in Lower Tyirha on Saturday evening. The 82 sheep were found dead with stab wounds and others with throats cut open whilst 24 of them were found dead on Sunday, 30 March 2025 next to the river. No one has been arrested yet. In Mthatha, the District Task Team conducted an intelligence driven operation on Tuesday, 01 April 2025 at about 16:00 in Xhugxwala locality under Bityi policing precinct, arresting a 33-year-old male suspect charged for possession of and dealing in drugs being 1030 Tik sachets, 90 Full Boss Mandrax, 08 Half Boss Mandrax, 02 Dagga Plastics and a sum of R2816,00 believed to be obtained from drug dealings whilst in New Payne locality also in Mthatha, Central police station members arrested a 31-year-old male suspect for possession of 90 Full Boss Mandrax drugs on Tuesday, 01 April 2025 at about 09:00 and was charged for possession and dealing in drugs. All arrested suspects will appear in their respective courts facing their various charges on Wednesday, 02 April 2025. OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Norman Modishana commended all police members involved in the operations, expressing his satisfaction on member’s commitment and dedication in fighting crime in the district.
