KROONSTAD – A joint operation conducted by members of the Welkom Crime Intelligence and Welkom Anti-Gang Unit resulted in the arrest of an illegal foreign national on drug-related charges in the Kroonstad Central Business District (CBD) today, 20 March 2025, at approximately 12:30. Acting on an intelligence led information, officers observed a male suspect near a block of flats on Cross Street in the Kroonstad CBD. The suspect was located and upon intervention, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. A search of the suspect revealed cash and drugs concealed on his body. Further investigation led officers to the suspect’s residence, where additional drugs were discovered. The suspect was arrested and is facing charges related to dealing in drugs and contravention of the Immigration Act. Ends
