Media Statement EAST LONDON – A high level police operation was executed in East London that led to the arrest of a male suspect who is allegedly linked to a number of cases, including taxi violence related murders, attempted murders, illegal possession of firearms, extortion amongst others. This follows a lengthy police investigation, led by the specialised team of investigators and operational units. The suspect is a Taxi Boss in the Eastern Cape, and is also allegedly involved in a number of taxi related incidences in the province. A National Taxi Violence and Extortion Task Team was established to specifically investigate extortion related matters including taxi violence incidences that are tormenting members of the community who are victims of such crimes in the Eastern Cape. The suspect is allegedly linked to numerous murder and attempted murder charges in the province including illegal possession of firearms. He is expected to appear at the East London Magistrates court today. Meanwhile, yesterday the multi-disciplinary team of Police specialised units, executed another arrest involving an alleged extortionist, Yakhe Kwinana in Midrand, Gauteng province. The suspect made a brief appearance at the Randburg Magistrate Court. She was remanded in custody and the case has been transferred to East London Magistrate Court. She will appear at the same court on Monday 24 March 2025.
