POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the swift arrest of a 44-year-old police officer from Gauteng province on Wednesday afternoon, 19 March 2025 after he was found in possession of nyaope drugs and suspected stolen motor vehicle along the N1 South freeway, outside Polokwane. The Police Constable from Silverton Detectives component was found in possession of 2,095 sachets of Nyaope worth approximately R85, 000 and was driving a suspected stolen Nissan NP200 with Gauteng registration plates. The vehicle was intercepted near Shell Ultra City during an intelligence-driven operation by the Provincial Anti-Smuggling Unit jointly with Tshimollo private security. His service pistol was also confiscated during the arrest. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has issued a stern warning that any police officer who chooses to break the law will face severe consequences. The arrest of this officer should send a clear warning that no one is above the law.
The suspect was detained at SAPS Westernburg and will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20th March 2025, facing charges of dealing in drugs and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.
