Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, alongside Deputy Ministers Ms. Polly Boshielo and Mr. Cassel Mathale, officially opened the state of the art Phaudi Police Station on Friday, 14 March 2025, at Ga Phaudi in the Capricorn District, Limpopo Province. The Minister was joined by Kgoshi Kgabo Moloto wa Boraro of the Batlhaloga nation, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety Ms. Violet Mathye, Capricorn District Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, Molemole Local Municipality Speaker Cllr. M Rathaga, National Commissioner of Police Lieutenant General Sehlahle Fannie Masemola, Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe and many other dignitaries. The station is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security in communities as well as providing policing services in high density areas. The station is equipped with modern infrastructure and technology aimed at improving police services. The National Commissioner of Police General Sehlahle Fannie Masemola during his welcoming remarks, stressed that SAPS remains committed to expanding police infrastructure nationwide to ensure greater access to policing services for communities across South Africa. In his address, Minister Mchunu highlighted the significance of the new police station as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to deliver essential services to the community, with an aim to maintain peace and stability in the region. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and the community in the fight against crime, encouraging citizens to report criminal activities, even those involving family members, assuring that their identities would remain confidential. Phaudi Police Station is expected to serve 36 villages across Moletjie, including Marowe, Lonsdale, Flora, Maupshe, and Ramoshoana, among others. The station is equipped to provide a full range of services, including a Victim-Friendly Room to accommodate victims and survivors of gender-based violence. The station is staffed by trained police officials, with Captain Mabena introduced as the new Station Commander. The unveiling of the plaque, followed by the cutting of the ribbon, marked a significant moment at Phaudi Station, led by Minister Senzo Mchunu. The group embarked on a guided tour of the station to observe the facilities. The Batlhaloga nation led by Kgoshi Kgabo Moloto wa Boraro, MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Violet Mathye, Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, and CPF Provincial Chairperson Mr. Frans Kgasago expressed their support for the new police station, emphasizing that it belongs to all members of the community and that they must make use of its policing services. The opening of the Police Station culminated into community engagement led by the Minister. Minister Mchunu addressed community concerns, including issues of cable theft, livestock theft, and delays in resolving cases. He assured the community that government is working to address these challenges and improve overall safety and security. On behalf of the Premier of Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Violet Mathye encouraged the community to support the police and participate in policing structures. In closing, Kgoshi Kgabo Moloto wa Boraro of Batlhaloga nation welcomed the newly built police station and pledged his support for local economic growth, including plans to develop shopping centres and malls in the area. Meanwhile, the day kick-started with the multi-disciplinary high density Operation Shanela along the N1 freeway towards Makhado which was conducted simultaneously across all districts resulting in a significant number of suspects being arrested for various offences.
