Media Statement POLOKWANE – The ongoing Vala Umgodi operation targeting illegal miners in Waterberg District, members recovered an abandoned vehicle and a variety of items suspected to have been used in illegal mining activities on Thursday, 13 March 2025, at an illegal mining site in Mokopane policing area. The Waterberg District Task Team Vala Umgodi confiscated an abandoned vehicle, white Toyota Hilux, and suspected illegal mining equipment during an intelligence driven operation at one of the illegal mining sites in Mokopane policing area. Meanwhile, the team was patrolling along the road leading to the mine when members came across a suspicious white bakkie. They tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped off. A chase ensued along the R101, a road leading to Mokopane Town. The driver and his passenger abandoned the vehicle on the side of the road and fled on foot. Upon searching the vehicle, Police found items such as a shovel, one winch, one hammer, one pick head, a pick handle, one headlight, one pulling rope and a black bag, including a white Toyota Hilux Bakkie. All the items were confiscated. The Police investigations are continuing. Ends
