Media Statement KIMBERLEY – A high speed chase with the SAPS Provincial Organized Crime Investigations Unit resulted in one male suspect arrested and the confiscation an illegal firearm and ammunition in Galeshewe in Kimberley. On Wednesday, 12 March 2025 at approximately 13:00 the SAPS members spotted the suspicious NW registered bakkie and tried flagging it down, but it sped off in the direction of Galeshewe. The occupants threw a black bag containing a 9mm firearm and ammunition out of the vehicle during the chase. The driver of the white Nissan NP200 bakkie eventually crashed into a gate and a garage wall of a house in Galeshewe. The driver fled but the police managed to arrest the second 38-year-old male passenger. The firearm had a filed off serial number and the bakkie was also confiscated as it was allegedly utilized in the commission of crime. The police are searching for a person of interest known as Mxolisi Vundisa who can possibly assist with information regarding the incident. The 38-year-old male suspect is charged with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, failing to stop upon instruction of a police officer, resisting arrest and defeating the ends of justice. He is expected and to appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon.
