Media Statement NELSPRUIT – Four suspects, aged between 31 and 51, were arrested yesterday, 13 March 2025 for dealing in dagga in separate incidents at Sabie and Lydenburg. In the first incident in Sabie, the Police received information about a Toyota RAV4 with Mpumalanga registration number plates, alleged to be transporting dagga along the Sabie-Lydenburg Road. Acting on this intelligence, the men and women in Blue spotted the vehicle with two occupants and the vehicle was stopped by the astute members. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of six bags of dagga weighing at about 122.22 kg’s with an estimated street value of about R150,000. As a result, the two suspects, aged 39 and 51, were arrested for dealing in dagga, and the vehicle was confiscated for further investigation. The suspects will appear at the Sabie Magistrate’s Court today, Friday 14 March 2025. In a separate incident, the Police in Lydenburg received information about a black Hyundai Atos, suspected of transporting dagga. The vehicle was traveling from Sabie towards Lydenburg direction and members responded swiftly and located the vehicle parked in Lydenburg CBD with two occupants inside. At the time the driver had reportedly gone into a nearby shop. Upon conducting a search, four bags of dagga were found inside the vehicle. The two suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with possession of dagga and for contravening the Immigration Act of South Africa. The recovered dagga weighed about 52.24 kg’s, with an estimated street value of about R75,000. The vehicle was also confiscated for further investigation. These suspects are expected to appear at the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court today, Friday 14 March 2025 facing the said charges. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed their arrest. The General gave credit to members of the public for the valuable information that they provided to the Police. The General reiterated that the SAPS remains committed to combat drug-related crimes.
