Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – A joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and various role players has led to the arrest of 34 individuals at the Southern Landfill Dump in Bloemfontein today. The operation, aimed at addressing criminal activities in the area, resulted in the confiscation of drugs, a brand-new television still in its packaging, a weigh scale, alcohol and ammunition. The successful operation was planned and executed by the Kagisanong police, in collaboration with surrounding police stations such as Parkroad and Mangaung Metro Law Enforcement and Department of Home Affairs. Several specialized units were deployed, including the Bloemfontein K9 Unit, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Policing, Visible Policing and Crime Intelligence. In addition to law enforcement agencies, local Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers and private security companies also played a crucial role in the operation. Their involvement underscores the importance of community participation in the fight against crime. Preliminary investigations indicate that 31 of the arrested suspects are illegal immigrants residing at the landfill site. Further investigations are underway to determine whether any of the suspects are linked to other criminal activities. All suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein and Batho Magistrate’s Courts respectively on Monday, 10 May 2025. Ends
