Media Statement EDENBURG – On Wednesday, 5 March 2025, two men were found guilty of armed robbery on the outskirts of Edenburg in 2022 and convicted before the Edenburg Regional Court. It was on 25 August 2022 at about 19:00 when a delivery truck from a butchery company in Bloemfontein had just completed its deliveries around Edenburg. On its way out, as it was about to join the N1 road, the driver decided to stop for a moment to answer nature’s call. The truck driver as well as the crew were attacked by about five unknown suspects who were inside a stationary Tata bakkie. They fastened their hands, took their cellphones and opened the safe inside the truck. The surveillance camera of the truck was monitored by the butchery company and local police in Edenburg were alerted. Police acted swiftly and managed to apprehend the Tata bakkie owner as well as the other accused who tried to run away. The two accused, Teboho Ramabele, aged 33, and Khothola Khorola, aged 45, were each sentenced to 20 years’ for armed robbery. The latter being Khorola, he was further sentenced to six months imprisonment or to pay a fine of R 3000.00 under the Immigration Act, as he is from Lesotho and had no passport. The Tata bakkie that was used in the commission of the crime was confiscated. The other suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money as well as the victims’ cellphones. The case was investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Dikeledi Makgisa from Edenburg Detective Unit.
