Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL – On Monday, 03 March 2025, the Hawks members from Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Investigation in conjunction with Crime Intelligence Border Security and Visible Policing and Operation’s Sea Border conducted a joint operation at the Richards Bay Sea Port following intelligence information provided by Crime Intelligence Border Security on the smuggling of dagga from Swaziland to the Port via the Golela Land Port. The team waited for the train, which was suspected to be carrying the smuggled dagga. Upon its arrival, a meticulous search of the train yielded 23 bags of dagga, each bag with names. The estimated street value of the seized dagga was a staggering R450 000 .00. The confiscated dagga was secured for further exploration. No arrests have been made at this stage and investigation continues. The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona praised the members for the good work. “This collaborative effort between our units and partner agencies highlights our dedication to combating the illicit trade of drugs,” he said.
