WELKOM – On Saturday, 1 March 2025, at approximately 20:00, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, while preparing for crime combating operations in Thabong, received intelligence led information about an armed suspect in Thabong. Officers immediately departed and the investigation led the team to a backroom in the Maspala Section of Thabong. Upon entering the premises, officers met with three individuals: a 38-year-old husband and his 34-year-old wife, and a 37-year-old male visitor. A thorough search of the room was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a 9mm firearm and ammunition concealed beneath a bed. All three suspects were placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed that all three suspects are foreign nationals and were unable to produce valid documentation authorizing their presence in South Africa. They were subsequently charged with contravention of the Immigration Act. They will appear in the Welkom Magistrate court soon. Investigations continue. Ends
