Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The Police in Nelspruit are investigating an attempted Cash-In-Transit (CIT) robbery following an incident which occurred along the N4 Road near Kanyamazane turn-off on Saturday, 01 March 2025. It was during the occurrence of this incident whereby Security Officers as members of POLSEC, managed to foil a Cash-In-Transit (CIT) robbery through their vigilance. According to a report, security guards that were driving a cash van were traveling on the N4 Road near Kanyamazane turn-off, from Malelana direction heading towards Nelspruit direction. It is said that several vehicles appeared, and these include a grey Toyota Fortuner, a white Ford Ranger with Gauteng registration number plates, a Toyota GD-6 and a white Mercedes-Benz, which he overtook when it was driving at a slow pace at the scene. In a split of a second, the Mercedes-Benz that he overtook approached from behind, at a high speed. As the driver of the cash van noticed some strange moves of the vehicles, through a rear mirror, he immediately responded and skilfully drove to the opposite lane, facing the oncoming traffic. In the process, the Mercedes-Benz only managed to make a minor scratch on the side of the cash van. The Ford Ranger persisted and came after the cash van at high speed however the driver of the cash van drove even faster until he reached his destination in Nelspruit, leaving the rest of the vehicles behind. There was also a report that the cash van was escorted by another vehicle however this particular vehicle escaped without any incident. No cash has been reportedly taken during the incident. Later, members of the SAPS arrived at the scene on the N4 Road next to Kanyamazane turn-off song and found a vehicle, Mercedes-Benz C Class without number plates, on fire. The suspects had fled the scene and no injuries were reported during the incident. The suspects are still at large at the moment and Police are looking for them. Police urge anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspects by calling the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or sending information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has reiterated that law enforcement agencies are strategically working collaboratively to curb CIT incidents in the province whilst coordinating with neighbouring province.
