South Africa’s Dylan Naidoo secured victory at the 2025 Investec South African Open Championship, becoming the first South African player of colour to win the prestigious tournament.
The championship, held at the historic Durban Country Club, was contested over three rounds instead of the traditional four due to adverse weather conditions.
Naidoo and England’s Laurie Canter both finished at 14-under-par, leading to a sudden-death playoff. Naidoo clinched the title on the 18th hole, marking his inaugural DP World Tour victory.
The tournament featured a competitive field vying for a share of the $1.5 million prize purse. Notably, England’s Dale Whitnell achieved two holes-in-one in a single round, underscoring the event’s excitement.
Established in 1903, the South African Open has a rich history of champions, including legends like Gary Player and Ernie Els. Naidoo’s victory adds a significant chapter to this legacy, inspiring a new generation of golfers in the region.
