POLOKWANE – On Monday 24 February 2025, the Division of Polokwane High Court sentenced a 44-year-old male accused, Isaac Magabe to an effective 20 years direct imprisonment in connection with the brutal murder of a 36-year-old woman believed to be his girlfriend. The court heard that on Sunday 09 July 2023, the accused called his girlfriend, Patricia Sete to visit him at the Willows village under Hoedspruit policing area. The deceased left with her 14-year-old daughter from their residence at Ga-Mamaila village after she was told to come and collect grocery for her son who was at an initiation school. Upon their arrival, Isaac did not provide the grocery as promised but requested the 14-year-old daughter to go back to Ga-Mamaila village the very same day and he remained with her mother. Afterwards, Isaac allegedly took the deceased to the nearby bushes following a heated argument and untimely stabbed her multiple times with a sharp object and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Following the incident, Isaac Magabe took the lifeless body of his girlfriend and dumped it at Matsikinyane village until it was found by a member of the community. A murder incident was opened at the local police and the suspect was later traced and apprehended the same month on Wednesday 19 July 2023 while at the house of a Traditional Healer in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga province. The case was handed to Detective Sergeant Given Shawn Mbhalati for further investigation and through his outstanding investigative abilities; he managed to oppose bail until Isaac was subsequently sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment for the murder of the 36-year-old woman. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has appreciated the positive court outcome of removing perpetrators such as Isaac Magabe from the society. Ends
