GAUTENG – On Monday 24 February 2025, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six suspects and recovered a large amount of copper wire as well as dagga. At around 06:45 members patrolling N12 West between Sundra and Springs off ramps noticed a brown Volkswagen Amarok travelling at a high speed. The Amarok took the Springs off ramp direction Etwatwa on the R555. Members managed to catch up to the vehicle and pull it over finding four (04) occupants inside. In the back canopy section they found a large quantity of suspected stolen copper wires in bags and wrapped in a duvet. The suspects aged 23 to 36 years were immediately arrested, the copper valued at around R60 000.00 handed in as exhibit and the Amarok impounded. Later the evening, members operationalised information they received of a specific truck with a registration number given that would be travelling on the N17 from Swaziland transporting bags of dagga. At around 20:30, the truck matching the description was spotted and pulled over at the Dalpark Tollgate, N17. A thorough search was conducted and in the trailer two (02) large black plastic bags were found containing 34 clear bags of dagga with an estimated value of around R50 000.00. A 37-year-old foreign national suspect was arrested in connection with the dagga. While still on scene members were approached by another foreign national who handed them R15 000.00 for the release of his arrested friend. The 32-year-old suspect was immediately arrested for bribery. The dagga and cash were booked in as exhibits. Members are commended for their efforts leading up to the arrests and once again setting an example to persons attempting to bribe officers. Investigation continues in these cases. The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property, dealing in drugs and bribery. Ends
