Media Statement KROONSTAD – Two suspects have been arrested following an intelligence driven operation by the Vala Umgodi team members. Information about drugs in transit was received. Members swiftly operationalised the information and proceeded to the N1 National Road near Kroonstad. Operators pulled over and searched a horse and trailer from Gauteng on route to Western Cape Province. A total of six boxes containing rolled bundles of Catha edulis, also known as KHAT plant, were found stacked behind the truck driver’s seat. The 39-year-old freight carrier driver and the 32-year-old female companion were placed under arrest. The police counted 1520 bundles of Catha edulis drug weighing at 26.35 kilograms and it were subsequently seized. The street sale value of the seized drugs is estimated at R91 200.00. A case docket for dealing in drugs was then opened at Kroonstad Police Station. The suspects will appear before Court soon. Ends
