Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – The relentless efforts to fight serious and violent crimes led to the arrest of two suspects who are expected to appear in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 February 2025, for hijacking, kidnapping, theft and assault common. The suspects were arrested during an intelligence driven operation in Ledig village near Sun City, on Friday, 20 February 2025, in connection with an incident that occurred in December last year. It is alleged that three men driving in a silver Volkswagen Polo vehicle hijacked a truck transporting diesel on Thursday, 12 December 2024, near Boshoek outside Phokeng. The truck driver was allegedly pointed with a firearm, taken to a secluded area, then assaulted and robbed of his cell phone and cash. According to information the suspects drained diesel worth R200 000.00 from the tanker. The victim was later released and managed to recover the truck with keys inside. The team comprising the Provincial Investigation Unit, Rustenburg Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Police (POP) and Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Crime Intelligence, also found a pellet gun outside the house at one of the suspects’ residences. In addition, the team confiscated the silver Volkswagen Polo that was used during the commission of the crime. Investigations into the matter are underway. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng lauded the team for their collaborative efforts that resulted in the success. Ends
