Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Police members attached to Public Order Police Unit in the Western Cape detained three suspects in isolated incidents for being in possession of firearms and ammunition without a valid licence to possess the mentioned firearms. The members deployed in Grassy Park to quell the recent ongoing gang violence conducted high-density patrols on Saturday 22 February 2025. When they entered Parkwood walk, they saw an unidentified male who suddenly changed direction when he saw the uniformed members. The members responded immediately and approached the man, searched him which led to the recovery of a firearm with ammunition. The man was not in possession of a valid license to possess the firearm and was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members further conducted stop and search operations in the crime hotspots of Grassy Park policing precinct in the early hours of Sunday 23 February 2025. Members noticed an unknown male who acted suspicious upon noticing police presence. He was stopped and searched and found to be in possession of a firearm with ammunition without a valid licence. They detained the adult man for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated matter, SAPS members deployed in Harare followed up information of alleged irregularities at an address in Bukwayo Street and upon searching the premises recovered of a revolver hidden inside the house. They detained the adult male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Wynberg and Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Courts on the mentioned charges. Ends
