Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the vigilant act of community members who torched a house and a property at Shushumela Mabitleng in Tubatse policing area on Saturday 22 February 2025 following a murder. On Saturday, 22 February 2025, at about 19:30, the police were at the Community Service Centre (CSC) when an African female and a man from Shushumela Mabitleng came to report an incident of a fight that (husband) had a fight with a man at Shushumela next to Nkosinathi tavern. During the fight, he stabbed the victim with a sharp object, and the victim was taken to a local clinic. The police rushed to the clinic to verify the matter. On their arrival, the nurse confirmed the victim has passed away due to his injury. The deceased was having an open wound on his upper left body. The community members received the information that the victim is dead, they regrouped themselves, and proceeded to the suspect residential place where they burned a house, and also the vehicle that was parked in the garage. The suspect was arrested immediately after confessing to have engaged in the fight and stabbing the deceased. The 43-year-old suspect will appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of murder. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the vigilantism act, torching of the house, and directed the investigation team to hunt down the responsible community members for malicious damage to property and arson. “No one is allowed to take the law into his or her own hands, even with the slightest provocation. Any act of criminality should be reported to the police,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
