Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Police members in this province are committed to eradicate the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and vowed that suspects will be brought before a court of law to face the might of the law. Police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted high density patrols in Manenberg on Wednesday 19 February 2025. The members entered a premises in Goudini Street, Heideveld at around 21:00, and searched the premises and confiscated a firearm with ammunition. They detained a 24-year-old man for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Meanwhile police members of Maitland Flying Squad were busy with crime prevention duties on Thursday 20 February 2025 when they responded to a complaint. The information at their disposal indicated that a suspect was waiting for a vehicle at an identified address to move a firearm to another location. The members tactically approached the location in Heron Street, Danarand in Kuilsriver. Here they noticed a blue VW Polo parked at the premises, searched the vehicle and the occupants and in the process recovered a shot gun in the boot of the vehicle. None of the occupants were in possession of valid license to possess the firearm which led to the detention of the seven suspects between the ages of 27 and 40 for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Blue Downs and Athlone Magistrate’s Courts respectively on the mentioned charges.
