GAUTENG – Nthuthuzelo Mana (32) and Benjamin Ntuli (37) have appeared before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 19 February 2025 for the murder of Captain Wynand Du Toit who was attached to Springs SAPS. Captain Du Toit was shot and killed on Sunday, 16 February 2025 during a robbery at a supermarket in Geduld, Springs. The owner of the shop and his two brothers were ambushed by four males who entered the supermarket and ordered the brothers to lay down. Captain Du Toit who was off duty at the time, was visiting the supermarket when he was informed by members of the public that there was a robbery in progress at the supermarket. When the officer ran inside to assist, the robbers began shooting, during the crossfire Captain Du Toit was wounded as well as one of the suspects. The suspects fled the scene while members of the public rushed Captain Du Toit to Parkland hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Later the same day of the incident, information was received about a possible suspect who was admitted at Pholosong hospital in Tsakane with gunshot wounds which led to his arrest. The suspect is currently under police guard. Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect who was arrested on Monday, 17 February 2025 in Evander, Mpumalanga. The pair made their first appearance at the Springs Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, Mana who is currently in hospital appeared in absentia. The matter has been postponed to Thursday, 27 February 2025 for further investigations. Provincial Head of the Hawks in Gauteng Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has commended the multi-disciplinary team who are working tirelessly to ensure that all suspects are brought to book. Ends
