Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Western Cape police continue to fight against crime and ensure that those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law face the consequences. On Wednesday afternoon, members attached to Maitland Flying Squad pursued information received about a possible deal where an uncut diamond would be sold at a premises at the casino in Elsies River. The members operationalised the information and attended to the identified address where upon arrival, they spotted the potential suspects. The three males aged between 50 and 52 tried to sell four uncut diamonds to the buyer, but the members were there on time. The three suspects were subsequently arrested and detained at Elsies River SAPS for the illegal possession of uncut diamonds and fraud. The members also seized a diamond tester together with the diamonds with an estimated value of about R60 000. The three suspects will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates Court once charged on the mentioned charge. In an unrelated matter, on Wednesday 05 February 2025, members attached to the Malmesbury Crime Prevention unit received information of a firearm being stored at a residence in Malmesbury. The members responded to the mentioned address where they found the firearm under a couch. A 30-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm. The suspect will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court today, 06 February 2025, on the mentioned charge. Ends
