Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Vala Umgodi Waterberg District Task Team in Limpopo, supported by the Mission Area Joint Operation Centre (MAJOC) Roving Team and the Tactical Joint Operational Centre (TACJOC), successfully executed a comprehensive operation on Sunday, 02 February 2025, targeting crime hotspots within Northam town and surrounding areas. In addition to addressing illegal mining activities, the operation, aimed at increasing visibility and disrupting criminal activity, involved a multidisciplinary approach with various specialized units including the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Drone Pilots, and K9-Unit to ensure maximum operational effectiveness. The team, joined by local detectives, arrested a 34-year-old undocumented person for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and contravention of the Immigration Act at a rental residence, in Lefika township near Northam town. With the support of the K9-Unit, a thorough search of the property was conducted, leading to the discovery of a firearm along with five live rounds of ammunition. The firearm was reported stolen from Northam town two weeks ago. In addition, the operation resulted in the arrest of nine undocumented persons and two further suspects who were found in possession of dagga and illicit cigarettes. The MAJOC Roving Team also supported operations in Mopani District on Saturday, 01 February 2025, leading to the arrest of two undocumented persons, aged 26 and 27, in Tzaneen CBD for possession of crystal meth drugs. The suspects were arrested in separate locations following an intelligence-driven operation. The 27-year-old suspect was found with twenty-seven sachets of crystal meth and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales. During his arrest, the suspect attempted to bribe officers, leading to an additional charge of bribery. The second suspect was found with three sachets of crystal meth and an undisclosed amount of cash inside his vehicle, a white Ford Figo with Gauteng registration. The vehicle was seized for further investigation. Both suspects also face additional charges of contravention of the Immigration Act. All suspects from both operations are scheduled to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 03 February 2025. Ends
