EASTERN CAPE – Officials from the Eastern Cape South African Police Service (SAPS) were recognised for their outstanding performance at the SAPS National Excellence Awards held in Durban on 26 January 2025. Ten (10) members from the province received prestigious awards for their dedication and commitment to serving and protecting the communities. In its tenth inception, the annual SAPS National Excellence Awards are aimed at recognising and rewarding outstanding performance, bravery and dedication by the SAPS employees, reservists and Community Policing Forum structures. The Award ceremony is presented as a way of extending a hand of appreciation to officials who have shown pockets of commitment and excellence towards embracing the responsibility of discharging the mandate of the SAPS with pride and integrity. The Provincial Commissioner of Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Mene expressed her elation at the sterling achievements of the members. “To the esteemed award winners of the National Excellence Awards from the Eastern Cape, I extend my warmest congratulations to each and every one of you. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have earned you this prestigious recognition. Your achievements are a testament to the high standards of professionalism and service delivery that the South African Police Service strives to uphold. You have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and teamwork, and your contributions have made a significant impact on our communities,” she said. One of the highlights of the evening was the special Minister’s Award that was awarded to Brigadier Duduzile Ngculu for her remarkable performance towards ensuring the successful investigation and arrest of the perpetrators involved in the Lusikisiki Mass Shooting case. Captain Mdumiseni Diniso also received an award as the third best performing official nationally, as he secured the award for third overall winner. The following officials and teams were also honoured for their exceptional performance in ensuring service delivery and enhancing safety in communities: – Brigadier Duduzile Ngculu: Minister’s Award for Lusikisiki Mass Murder Case – Captain Mdumiseni Diniso : Administration Employee of the Year: Level 8 to 12: First Position and Third Place National Overall Winner – Sergeant Craig Phillips: Visible Policing and Operations Member of the Year: Level 5 to 7: First Position – Lieutenant Colonel Queenie Mapipa: Family, Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigator of the Year: Level 8 to 12: First Position – Captain Stephanus Du Rand: Person with Disability of the Year: First Position – Lieutenant Colonel Zamile Sigqibo: Operations Member of the Year: Level 8 to 12: Second Position – Captain Piet Potgieter: Detective Services Employee of the Year: Level 8 to 12: Second Position – Warrant Officer Busisiwe Ncula: Family, Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigator of the Year: Level 5 to 7: Second Position – Sergeant Bulelani Mgubo: Detective Services Employee of the Year: Level 5 to 7: Second Position – K9 Search and Rescue Team: Eastern Cape: Visible Policing and Operations Team of the Year: Second Position Ends
