Media Statement POLOKWANE – The owner of a funeral parlour and his employee from Musina have been arrested and are facing charges of Assault GBH after allegedly assaulting a foreign national man accused of burglary at their business premises. On January 24, 2025, at approximately 06:30, members of the Mission Area Joint Operation Centre (MAJOC) Roving Team, operating under Vala Umgodi in Limpopo, were on operational duties along the N1 in Musina when they stopped a suspicious white Toyota Fortuner with Limpopo registration plates. During the stop and search, officers observed that the back seats of the vehicle were covered in blood. When questioned, the driver admitted that both he and his employee had assaulted an individual, alleging that the man had stolen from them. The driver was then taken to Musina Police Station. Upon arrival, he contacted his employee to bring the assaulted man to the station. The driver was found to be in possession of a legal firearm, which was confiscated for further investigation. When the employee arrived at the police station in an Isuzu bakkie, the assaulted individual was found in the back of the vehicle, bound, covered in blood, and in visible distress. The man was unable to speak due to the severity of his injuries. An ambulance was immediately called, and the injured man was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The two suspects, a 29-year-old funeral Parlour owner and a 47-year-old employee, have been arrested and are facing charges of Assault with the Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). They are scheduled to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 January 2025. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the members of the MAJOC Roving Team for their vigilance and swift response in this matter. Ends
