Media Statement CALITZDORP – The clamp down on drug outlets during weekend crime combatting operations at Calitzdorp led to the arrest of two suspects for drug related offences. On Saturday, 25 January 2025 at about 12:30 Calitzdorp police members and Attaqua K9 Unit responded to information of a vehicle which was enroute from Oudtshoorn with a consignment of drugs. The members spotted the vehicle along the R62 where it was pulled it over. Upon searching the vehicle the members found a bag with 100 mandrax tablets and 10 grams of Tik in possession of a passenger on board. The 61-year-old man was subsequently arrested. Later the same day, 25 January 2025, Calitzdorp police, Dysselsdorp police, Attaqua K9 Unit, Western Cape Provincial Traffic and Crime Intelligence conducted a vehicle checkpoint on the R62 at the entrance to Calitzdorp. The team search a taxi when they found 100 mandrax tablets in possession of a passenger on board. The suspect (36) was arrested also on a charge of dealing in drugs. The team also arrested a 32-year-old suspect found with a small quantity of drugs. Meanwhile the joint operation resulted in the issuing of seven fines with an amount of R9600 for road traffic offences. All three suspects remains in police custody. They are expected to make their first court appearance in the Calitzdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 January 2025. These operations forms part of several operations to curb serious and violent crimes normally reported over weekends. Similar operations will be conducted in an effort to eradicate substance abuse.
