Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Police members attached to the Anti-Gang unit, deployed in Lentegeur to stabilise the area following the recent gang violence, arrested two suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition on Wednesday 23 January 2025. Whilst busy with patrols, a source stopped the patrol vehicle and alerted them about a man in possession of a firearm who just fled into a nearby premises. The members entered the premises and saw the man who fitted the description, searched him and confiscated a revolver with ammunition. The 21-year-old man failed to provide a valid license to be in possession of the mentioned firearm and was detained for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention the members searched a house owned by gang members. Following thorough interrogation, one of the men pointed out the place where a firearm was hidden. They recovered a revolver with ammunition and arrested the 19-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges. Ends
