Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Police members attached to Operation Shanela deployed in the Western Cape to quell the ongoing gang violence in the province continue to eradicate the prevalence of drugs when they detained four suspects in isolated incidents on Sunday 19 January 2025. Police members followed up on information and proceeded to an address in Browns Farm in Nyanga policing precinct. Upon entering the premises at about 18:10 in the informal settlement, they searched all the occupants and found a woman in possession of 50 sachets filled with methamphetamine. They detained the woman for the possession of drugs. In an unrelated intervention police members responded to information about illegal activities in Delft. The convoy proceeded to an address in Eendrag Street in Voorbrug where they entered the premises and searched the occupants. They found one of the men in possession of 49 sachets with methamphetamine and a scale while two males were found with cocaine. They detained the three males aged between 23 and 29 for the possession of drugs. The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Bellville Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges. Ends
