Media Statement PARKTOWN – On Friday, 17 January 2025, an integrated illegal mining operation Vala Mgodi was conducted at Ekurhuleni District in Primrose. The operation which seeks to destabilise and disrupt illegal mining activies within the province saw an arrest of five illegal immigrants also suspected of illegal mining and one of them was also charged with bribery after he tried to offer officials money for his release. Several illegal mining equipment and alcohol sold at unlicensed shebeens were also seized.
The seized tools of trade for illegal mining include phendukas, generators, crusher pots, gas bottles, spades, waterproof and soil crushing machines.
