WESTERN CAPE – The rapid response by members attached to Nyanga SAPS who attended to a complaint by members of the public produced positive results as they arrested a 26-year-old suspect and retrieved a hijacked vehicle. On Wednesday 08 January 2025 at around 14:31 members were on duty and busy patrolling, in 5th Avenue, Zwelitsha, Nyanga when a member of the public informed them about an ongoing business robbery at a shop in Great Dutch Street, KTC, Gugulethu. The members swiftly responded when the suspects were just vacating the scene in a Silver Toyota Corolla. The members then gave chase and tried to stop the vehicle. The suspects opened fire at them, and the members retaliated. The vehicle was forced to come to a halt in 5th Avenue, Zwelitsha, when it bumped road obstacles. The three suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran in different directions. The members gave chase and managed to arrest one suspect. They searched the vehicle and found boxes of cigarettes and over the counter medication. No injuries were sustained by the members or the suspects and no damage to the state vehicle. Further investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported as hijacked in Nyanga in December 2024, and it was handed in as exhibit and further processing. The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court for attempted murder, possession of hijacked motor vehicle, and possession of suspected stolen property once charged. Ends
