Media Statement THABONG – A 23-year-old accused was sentenced to 25 years after he forced the victim to perform inappropriate acts. On 19 April 2019 at about 23:00, the 23-year-old victim was at a church gathering. One of her friends requested that she join them so they could collect some blankets. She agreed and all five of them left. On their way back to the church, they came across two boys who warned them to run away. The friends split up and the victim was separated from the others. She was caught by one 23-year-old suspect who threatened her with a knife and forced her into a deserted house, requesting her to have sex with him, but she refused. On their way back to the church near an open field, he pushed her to the ground and forced her at knife point to do inappropriate sexual conduct and robbed her of her cellphone. He then took her to a shack where he tried to break in, but the victim managed to find an opportunity and escaped. Sergeant Themba Jilimba was given investigative responsibility for the case after Thabong police transferred it to the Thabong Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit. He collaborated with Mr. Masoane of the National Prosecuting Authority to secure a 25-year sentence for the offender for rape and robbery.
