POLOKWANE – The Vala Umgodi Task team operation in Mopani, Sekhukhune, Waterberg Vhembe and Capricorn Districts of Limpopo resulted in the seizure of illegal mining equipment and arrest of 14 suspects aged between 19 and 38 for contravening the Immigration Act, dealing in drugs and illicit cigarettes, between 22 and 23 December 2024. Sekhukhune Task team apprehended 28-year-old male suspect for dealing in drugs after he was found in possession of suspected Rock and Nyaope drugs with an estimated street value of R10000.00 in Groblersdal taxi rank. In addition, small sachets of dagga and cash believed to be proceeds from the drugs were confiscated. In Vhembe, the operation was conducted in Thohoyandou policing area, targeting illegal mining sites in Mantangari village. One tipper truck and an excavator were found abandoned by the suspects. Two illegal immigrants aged 20 and 38 were arrested. Two illegal immigrants aged 19 and 20 were arrested in Letsitele policing precinct under Mopani District with assistance of the community. The suspects are believed to be involved in illegal mining activities in Molati village. The officers confiscated wheelbarrows, spades, shovels and iron bars abandoned by the suspects. In Waterberg, 23-year-old suspect was found in possession of illicit cigarettes in Mokopane town. Three other individuals were issued with fines for public drinking and selling fireworks Meanwhile, five illegal immigrants aged between 24 and 31 were arrested within Westenburg policing area, in Capricorn District. The suspects will soon appear before the respective Magistrate’s Court. Ends
