Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL – Hawks members from Durban Serious Commercial Crime Investigation working together with boarder police and brand owners seized counterfeits goods in one of the container depot in Durban on 19 December 2024. In September 2024, five containers were stopped and inspected by border police. They drew samples from the container and forwarded them to the brand attorneys. It was confirmed that goods were not genuine and brand owners have no partnership or any business deal with the importers. The brands includes Nike, Adidas, Polo, Vans and Vicks to the street value of approximately R212 765 959.00. The cargo was coming from China to Johannesburg via Durban Harbour. Hawks members were alerted hence the search and seizure operation was conducted. No arrest has been made at this stage and investigation continues. The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona welcomed the seizure of illicit goods and commended the members for the good work.
