POLOKWANE – Members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo working together with other stakeholders have made an impact by arresting 1167 suspects across the province for various crimes like possession of dangerous weapons, dealing in drugs, possession of illegal cigarettes, possession of counterfeit goods, possession of precious metals, possession of drugs, business robbery, murder (13), attempted murder, rape (9), assault GBH, assault common, business burglary, residential burglary, theft from motor vehicles, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol (42), undocumented persons (360) and illicit mining. These operations were conducted from Monday 16 December 2024 until Sunday 22 December 2024. During the operation, 184 premises were visited, 18509 persons , 7113 vehicles, one hostel were searched, 2922 stop and searches were conducted, 1275 high visibility patrols, 866 vehicle check points, 30 roadblocks were conducted , 4930 spaza shops were inspected for compliance to the law, 644 farms were visited, 13 mines were visited, 1164 licensed liquor premises inspected and 58 unlicensed were closed. Finally 08 scrap yard premises were inspected. Confiscations were as follows : 725,481 litres of alcohol beverages, 20 dangerous weapons, 201 counterfeit goods, four firearms, 3,98 kg of dagga, 16 ammunitions, 05 cellphones, 06 suspected stolen motor vehicles, R7.175 cash, 7,64 grams of Crystal-Meth, 2,4 grams of Nyaope, 04 firearms, and 05 vehicle parts. These positive results were achieved through collaboration with law enforcement agencies like, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Metro Traffic Police, National Traffic Police as well as other sector Department like Department of Minerals Resources and Energy, Department of Correctional Services, South African Revenue Service (SARS), Home Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, as well as private security. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe highlighted that police would leave no stone unturned to ensure that visitors, residents of Limpopo together with their properties are safe as more boots are on the ground during this Festive Season. Some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear in different Magistrate’s Court throughout the Province. Ends
