Media Statement MPUMALANGA – Lesley Skhumzo Khathi (44) appeared before the Mpumalanga High Court on Friday, 20 December 2024, facing a charge of contempt of court. His appearance follows after he was arrested on the same day by the Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation on a warrant of arrest. The arrest emanated from an investigation where the accused was arrested for a house breaking and theft case during January 2024. During profiling of the accused, it was established that he is out on bail on a Witbank armed robbery on SBV base. He was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. He appealed the sentence to the High Court and was subsequently released on bail, awaiting the High Court decision on his sentence, when he contravened the bail conditions. The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court was approached after the Nelspruit house breaking case was registered during January 2024. After a delay of 11 months, a warrant of arrest was issued on Thursday, 19 December 2024, for the contempt of court case. On Friday, 20 December 2024, the accused was arrested and appeared before the Mpumalanga Division of High Court where he pleaded guilty The accused was sentenced to R1000 fine or three years imprisonment. The accused is still awaiting the outcome of his appeal on 20 years’ imprisonment sentence for the Witbank cash in transit case. Ends
